I AM HER EXHIBITION at SKYLINE COLLEGE: Kalia Chavez
"The Nicaraguan flag and blouse represents my culture with which I identify with and I am proud to be. My graduation cap represents my accomplishment of being the first one in my family to graduate from college and the second from high school. The picture are of my grandparents who are in their late 70’s. All that I am comes from them: my morals, my culture, my family values, and ambition. They didn’t come here for no reason. Their struggles are mine, and I want to help fulfill their dreams of a better life. My pose and shoes are reflection of San Francisco’s Mission culture, embedded in me from my father. “ Sigo Luchando! ”
The "We are the Revolution tours allow is a result of the educational programming around my personal exhibition "Who we are: the will to adorn. Within these tours students are provided a lecture, pop up exhibit, an intimate portrait session, and a student photography exhibit. The interactive photography session allows students and educators to be involved in titling each exhibition.
